From Rocket Science to Real Estate: Amanda Fadely’s Inspiring Journey

In the latest episode of the Property Profits Real Estate Podcast, host Dave Dubeau interviews Amanda Fadely, a rocket scientist turned real estate investor. A Leap of Faith

Amanda's foray into real estate began when she purchased a single-family home in Cape Canaveral, Florida. Initially, it served as her residence, but life circumstances soon led her to a new path. After relocating to California to assist her family during a challenging time, Amanda decided to list her Florida property on Airbnb. To her surprise, the rental market was thriving in 2021, and she quickly found success without professional photos or extensive preparations. This experience ignited her passion for real estate investing.

Expanding the Portfolio

Amanda didn't stop there. After moving to Colorado for work, she began searching for her next investment opportunity. She discovered a triplex in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, which she purchased in 2022. Despite her limited experience in the Midwest market, Amanda was eager to dive in. The triplex posed several challenges, including managing tenants and navigating a property that needed significant renovations.

"It was a whole different ball game," Amanda recalls, highlighting the extensive learning curve she faced. Working with a designer to manage the renovations, Amanda discovered the importance of hiring professionals and understanding local resources, especially in rural areas.

Overcoming Challenges

One of Amanda's biggest challenges involved handling existing tenants in the Michigan property. With a compassionate approach, she communicated with each tenant, offering support and even financial incentives to facilitate their transition. This experience not only strengthened her relationships within the community but also highlighted the importance of empathy in real estate investing.

After about two months, all tenants vacated, allowing Amanda to commence renovations. She faced the realities of working in a rural area with limited contractor availability and different market dynamics compared to her Florida property. However, Amanda's determination and willingness to learn allowed her to adapt and successfully launch the triplex as a short-term rental by the end of 2022.

Embracing Flexibility and Growth

Looking to the future, Amanda is committed to continuing her journey in the short-term rental market. She plans to treat her real estate endeavors like a business, focusing on data analysis and strategic management. Additionally, she is considering co-hosting opportunities to expand her reach and grow her portfolio.
